Leo Demer
Leo Demer – Chief Executive Officer – Australia and New Zealand

Leo commenced employment with Jardine Australian Insurance Brokers (later to become Jardine Lloyd Thompson) in March 1985 to establish a specialised Local Government Division in New South Wales.

In 2000 Leo was appointed Managing Director of the Risk Services Division of Jardine Lloyd Thompson. This division incorporates the Australia wide Local Government operations which represents around 98% of all councils in the country.

Leo was appointed Managing Director of the Australian and New Zealand businesses in January 2008 and continues in that role as CEO of the consolidated Australian and New Zealand operations. Leo was appointed to the Group Executive Committee of JLT plc in January 2010.

In addition to being a member of the New South Wales Bar, Leo is a Qualified Practicing Insurance Broker, Fellow of the National Insurance Brokers Association and is accredited under the new Financial Services legislation.

André Louw
André Louw – Managing Director – Echelon Australia, and Chairman – ProEx, Australia & New Zealand

For more than 20 years, André has provided specialist insurance broking, risk consulting and claims services to corporations and firms from a wide range of industries. He has particular experience in mergers, acquisitions and capital raising.

André holds postgraduate qualifications in law and business administration in addition to his formal insurance qualifications.

He also practiced as a solicitor, specialising in professional and public liability before entering the insurance industry.

Presently, André is the Managing Director of Echelon Australia, our consulting company, and the Chairman of ProEx, the segment which specialises in PI and D&O insurance, in Australia and New Zealand.

Andrew Barrowman – Managing Director, Specialty

Andrew has over 30 years experience in the General Insurance industry, the last 22 at Zurich Australian Insurance Ltd , covering all aspects of the business, from underwriting to sales.

Andrew was appointed General Manager, General Insurance in October 2007 and was previously Zurich’s Head of Regional Operations, General Insurance.

Andrew joined Jardine Lloyd Thompson in July 2010 as Managing Director – JLT Specialty which services the needs of our clientele across Advisory Corporate, Construction, Energy, Mining, ProEx and Group Risk Solutions.

Bruno Codemo
Bruno Codemo – Chief Financial Officer

Bruno joined JLTA in 1985 and was appointed Finance Director in 1990. Previously, he was a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse in Australia and the UK.

Bruno is responsible for Jardine Lloyd Thompson Australia’s finance and accounting functions including finance reporting and compliance with accounting and taxation legislation. He is also responsible for treasury and company secretarial requirements.

Gary Okely – General Manager, South Australia

Gary has worked in various insurance and risk advisory roles throughout his career. Gary was appointed General Manager for SA in March 2010.

Having worked with insurance markets in Australia, Asia and London for more than 20 years, Gary has actively pursued opportunities for businesses and government to move from traditional insurance approaches to a more mature focus on risk management, self insurance and claims management.

In addition to being a Board Member of the Local Government risk scheme’s in SA, Gary is a qualified Practicing Insurance Broker, Member of the National Insurance Brokers Association and Member of the Institute of Company Directors.

Hank Jeuring

Hank joined JLT in 1998 and has been in the insurance industry in Australia for over 25 years as a broker and underwriter. He has worked in every state in Australia either as a State Manager or Sales Manager. Before joining JLT he was Operations Manager with the FAI Insurance Group.

Hank is responsible for the management of JLT operational issues in Australia to ensure the business works effectively and efficiently.

Matthew Riddle
Matthew Riddle – Chief Executive Officer – JLT New Zealand

Matthew has over 25 years experience in both broking and insurance underwriting in New Zealand and London.

Matthew joined JLT in New Zealand in 1991, and was appointed a Director of JLT New Zealand in 1996. His responsibilities have included the delivery of risk and insurance services to our Wellington and South Island clients, as well as national management of our Public Sector business. Matthew also led the establishment of the Echelon claims management business in New Zealand.

In 2010 Matthew was appointed Chief Executive Officer of JLT, with responsibility for all of JLT’s broking, risk and insurance services in New Zealand.

Nick Harris
Nick Harris – Managing Director, Benefit Solutions

Nick has worked in the Employee Benefits sector for over 15 years, predominately in the UK market, both on the insurer and broking sides of the industry. Prior to joining JLT in 2008, he was a Director at the UK’s leading online benefits broker, providing online benefits to many large multinational clients. He has particular experience providing benefit solutions to global clients across multiple regions.

Nick is Managing Director of the Benefit Solutions division which provides consultancy and administrative services to national and international clients and is heavily involved in the development and deployment of JLT’s International online benefits system, BenPal.

Richard van Velzen
Richard van Velzen – Executive Director

Richard’s career in the insurance industry spans over 30 years working in the Melbourne, Brisbane and London markets. A recognised industry leader in his field, Richard has led large infrastructure, government, energy and mining projects and operational program placements. His experience includes broking and consulting for large Australian and international entities, across a broad range of disciplines, including feasibility studies for, and management of offshore captives and sophisticated risk financing programs.

During Richard’s career he has held state and national roles with major international brokers, including strategic positions in business development, the design and implementation of programs for large natural resources, construction and corporate clients.

Richard leads JLT’s National Business Development team and has a strategic involvement with major clients.

Stephen Ball

Steve began his insurance career over 35 years ago and has worked in Australia, the UK and the Middle East. He has been a senior Broker in the JLT NSW team since 1982 and has been active in Marketing and New Business Development as well as Branch Management.

Steve is the Managing Director of Enterprise Solutions which focuses on the unique needs of Affinity Groups including Trade and Sporting Associations, specialised bulk placement facilities for internal and wholesale distribution and of general Insurance distribution through Joint venture and regional offices.

Stephen Penfold

Stephen has worked in the insurance industry for over 34 years in underwriting, client service and insurance broking roles. Prior to joining JLT in 1994 he held state and national underwriting management positions with GIO Australia.

Stephen is Managing Director of the Public Sector Division which specialises in providing insurance broking services and self insurance schemes for Australian Local Government & Government entities. He is also the Chairman of Echelon Australia which provides consultancy services across Australia in the areas of Claims Management, Loss Adjusting, Risk Management and WorkCare services.

Tony Venning
Tony Venning – Executive Director, Enterprise Solutions

Tony has acquired more than 15 years experience in the insurance industry, both as an underwriter and broker. Since joining JLT in April 2000, he has worked in senior positions in our Melbourne, London and Sydney operations.

Tony specialises in designing pooled insurance solutions, encompassing servicing, placement, risk management and IT platforms. His expertise also extends to the creation of innovative risk transfer vehicles, such as discretionary trusts, captive insurance programmes and agency platforms, whereby capital is managed on behalf of selected providers.

Currently Tony is the Executive Director of Enterprise Solutions, as well as leading our dedicated underwriting agency, Thistle Underwriting Services.
