National Indigenous Business Unit
Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) has been providing specialist insurance broking services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Organisations for over 15 years.
Our national branch network has allowed us to build long term relationships with Indigenous Organisations and Councils throughout Australia.
Recently JLT has formed a National Indigenous Business Unit – NIBU – bringing together a group of highly experienced brokers to consolidate and focus on continuing to provide our valued indigenous clients with new, innovative and specialised insurance products and services.
The insurance facilities we utilise have been specifically developed to meet needs of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island Organisations and Councils. These facilities have been modified over time to keep pace with changing needs of Indigenous communities and to remain competitive.
The schemes have proven stability as they have been underwritten by the same high quality Australian based insurers from their inception.
Since the commencement of our association with indigenous organisations, we have strived to provide a high level of “hands on service”. To ensure we can deliver on our service standards we have acquired our own plane which is piloted by one of our own highly experienced brokers. This provides us with the capability to service clients within remote areas.
In addition to assisting our Client’s with their annual insurance reviews these “onsite” visits have given JLT an opportunity to develop an extensive working knowledge and understanding of the local communities, particularly some of the difficulties faced on a daily basis, such as remoteness, lack of services, limited repair facilities etc.
The JLT Group also has an extensive involvement with Local Government in Australia and overseas through our specialist Risk Services Division.

- John Hall – QLD
-
John is the manager of our Cairns office and has over 30 years industry experience. Shortly after joining JLT in 1994 John recognised that the industry as a whole was providing little in the way of “onsite” professional insurance services to Indigenous Councils, Organisations and Associations, particularly those in remote areas.
Since that time John has worked closely and successfully with a large number of these organisations, travelling regularly and extensively throughout Queensland including C.Q., Cape York, Torres Straits and the Gulf.
During this period John has serviced the majority of Queensland based Indigenous Councils.
JLT are widely regarded as the broker of choice for Queensland based Indigenous Councils.
